Yukon shootdown
NORAD downed a small cylindrical object at about 40,000 feet over central Yukon after it violated Canadian airspace; Canadian and US aircraft were scrambled and a US F-22 fired on it. RCMP recovered debris from a lake shore.
The record
Prime Minister Trudeau ordered the object taken down, describing it as unidentified and saying it had violated Canadian airspace. A US F-22 fired on it and Canadian Forces were tasked with recovery and analysis.
Defence Minister Anita Anand described a small cylindrical object at roughly 40,000 feet, downed about 100 miles from the US border. RCMP said to CTV News that debris on a lake shore was recovered.
It was the third such interception in a week: 10 February over northern Alaska, 11 February over Yukon, 12 February over Lake Huron - an object first detected over Alberta.
Canadian MPs have since filed written questions on the follow-up. Question 3227, tabled 28 November 2024 by MP Larry Maguire, asks how many such objects have been tracked since 1 January 2023 and refers to the Yukon object as "UAP 23". It is the clearest paper trail from the intercept to Parliament - and it was never answered.
