Bonaventure Hotel, Montreal
About forty people on a Montreal rooftop pool watched for three hours as eight to ten lights in a ring projected bright rays around a round object, then drifted north. Air traffic control recorded nothing.
The record
The sighting ran from roughly 7:20 to 10:20 p.m. The object was described as a flattened metallic form some 540 metres across, with lights arranged in a circle on its perimeter.
Wingers varied in intensity as the object moved, which is the detail investigators kept returning to: a wing-shaped craft banking should change the angle, and observers said it did not.
Air traffic control confirmed no radar activity corresponding to the object. Several witnesses later appeared on CBC Television.
It is one of the better-sourced Canadian cases outside the two 1967 events, and it sits in the hundreds-of-witnesses category rather than the single-witness category that dominates the archive.
