Gander
A United States Navy aircraft bound for Iceland reported a near-collision with a large orange circular object that, in the pilot's words, almost literally flew circles around it.
The record
It is the earliest dated case in this index and it sits in the same place as the 1974 Gander encounters: the Gander terminal has been a recurring waypoint for reports of objects near the transatlantic track.
The report came from a US Navy crew, which means it would have entered American systems - and the Canadian side of it is a reference rather than a file anyone here has read.
Sourcing is a published summary of a Blue Book-era report rather than the report itself. Treat the wording as indicative until the original is found.
Thin sourcing — verify before citing
This case is included because gaps are worse than thin records, but the sourcing is partial. Do not build on it without reading the original file.
